Westborough Resident Earns Girl Scouts' Top Award

Westborough resident Riona Reeves has received the Girl Scout Gold Award, which is Girl Scouting's top honor.

Reeves earned the award for her project, "SMILE Math."

She worked with Northborough’s St. Bernadette’s School to design a fourth and fifth grade math retention curriculum by developing grade level workbooks and instructional web videos in an effort to help students retain over the summer what they learned the previous school year. In all she created 18 math lessons, 29 web videos and 614 math problems to be solved.

St. Bernadette’s teachers have made SMILE Math mandatory for future students and requested similar projects for other grade levels.

Reeves attend the St. Mark’s School in Southborough, where she serves as a math tutor and library prefect. She plays the cello and is a dual-sport athlete on the ice hockey and lacrosse teams. She has been a Girl Scout since she was six years old, and earned the Girl Scout Bronze and Silver Awards previously.
