Hundredth Town Chorus Winter Session to Begin

                The Hundredth Town Chorus of Westborough will begin rehearsals for its winter session on Wednesday, January 8th, 2014. The chorus was founded in 1949 with the primary mission of bringing music to residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities and Alzheimers’ units. The chorus is always looking for new members. The chorus is presently seeking women singers, of all ages, from all towns, and of all parts to join. There are no auditions. The only requirement to join is a love of singing and the ability to sing on pitch. Our music is in 3 or 4 parts so we try to achieve a balance among first and second sopranos and first and second altos. If you are unsure of your placement, don’t worry- our director will help you find a place where you are comfortable! Our members come from all kinds of musical backgrounds. Some have formal training or play an instrument, while some do not. Some read music and some don’t. All members can access all musical parts online, played by the accompanist, so that they can practice at their convenience. Any prospective member is welcome to come and sit in on a rehearsal or two, in order to get a sense of how we work. We also pair all new members with a “buddy” who is there to guide you through all the new experiences.

                HTC rehearses Wednesday mornings any time that school is in session, during the school year, from 9:30 to 11:00. The chorus meets in the sanctuary of Congregation B’nai Shalom, 117 East Main St, Westboro. HTC is unaffiliated with the synagogue, which generously donates the space and keyboard for our use. There are no rehearsals on snow days or during school vacations. The season concludes with four concerts in May, also held on Wednesday mornings, during the same general hours as rehearsals. Once you clear your schedule for Wednesdays, you don’t have to make other arrangements for concerts! The May performances include a mix of show tunes, American classics, patriotic songs and others. There are no tickets to sell or fundraising to do either!
