Free Books!

The Westborough Public Library - a gem that's not so hidden!

I recently left my full-time job and needed to find ways to cut back on expenses.  I discovered this wonderful place in town that allows you to take home books and movies for up to a month – for free!  All you have to do is show them your membership card!  Yes, of course I’m talking about the Westborough Public Library.

In our busy lives, it’s so easy to forget about the library – so much easier to stop into a bookstore on the way home, or download a book to our eReader, which can cost the same as the physical book.  But the library is right downtown, is open 7 days/week, and there’s always someone available to answer your questions (I know, because I usually have a ton).

Did you know that you can download library books to your eReader?  Yup.  It’s called C/W Mars (accessed through an application called Overdrive).  So you don’t have to physically go into the library to check out a book.  And yes, the service is free.  Just ask at the reference desk for instructions.

Anyone remember studying in “the stacks” in school?  The library still has desks scattered about – a great place for our teens to study…and it’s within walking distance from Gibbons and the High School.

And if you can’t find the book you’re looking for, Westborough is part of a regional group of public libraries, so they can arrange to have a book transferred for you. (By the way, I’m told you can also request a transfer on-line!)

I’ve been meaning to write this blog for a while, and as it happens, the Library is holding a mini-golf fundraiser today from 10-5 p.m. ($7 per person at the door).  Details on the Patch’s Events tab.  If you haven’t been to the library for a while, it’s a good time to “check it out”.  See you there!
