What if the community were our extended family?

In a family, if parents compete against one another or their children; if siblings compete with one another; there is bound to be disharmony. Parents give selflessly to their children. Spouses make compromises to suppress their own desires at times in order to let their spouse fulfill some of their desires. Cooperation, not competition is what works in a family. Is it time to start applying these same principles to our interactions with other members of the community, beyond our immediate family? Can we afford to continue competing with everyone else in order to find security for ourselves and our families? Are we not already seeing the impact of all the stress such a lifestyle is causing in our modern lives? What can we do to start creating a new social order that relies on cooperation, service and support for one another? The answers are not known at the moment, but shouldn't we be asking these questions and starting to take some action? If you agree with these sentiments, please join us at the inaugural meeting of the Community Spirit club at Sohum on Feb 9 at 5:30 pm. Sohum is a yoga and meditation studio in the Westborough Shopping Center, but this meeting is free and not related to the commercial offerings of Sohum. We at Sohum want to galvanize a group of community members who would meet on a regular basis to come up with new solutions to some of the challenges we face in our society today. I hope that you want to make a difference and will show up. If you plan to come, please join the meetup group created for this club and rsvp your attendance for the inaugural meeting.
