Police Crack Down on Impaired Driving; State Hospital Purchase to Be Put to Town Vote in October

Five things to inform you about Westborough today.

  1. The Westborough Selectmen have agreed to a proposal for the town to purchase the Westborough State Hospital property for $2.2 million. However, before the deal can be seen through, voters must approve the purchase at the October Town Meeting. For more information on the purchase of the hospital property, visit the town website.   
  2. The Westborough Police Department issued a release on their Facebook page to let residents know the department is launching a crackdown on impaired driving throughout the rest of Aug. and into Labor Day. The department will be joining nearly 126 other law enforcement agencies through the state to crackdown on impaired driving. The federally funded program, called Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over runs through Aug. 16 through to Sept. 2.
  3. Are you ready to take your students back to school? The first day of school this year is Aug. 28. There will be no school on Labor Day on Sept. 2 or on Thursday, Sept. 5 for Rosh Hashanah. To see the school year calendar, visit the Westborough school calendar on their website.
  4. The Town Hall will be undergoing renovations starting in Sept. Many town offices will be moved around. The first phase of the move will be when the Historical Commission will move to the Westborough Library on 55 West Main St on Sept. 6.   5. In the mood to dance while burning calories, but with a chair? A new class, called Zumba Sentao will be offered at the Fountainhead Social Room on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 8 a.m. Zumba Sentao is a new kind of Zumba with a chair, combining strength exercises while doing dance moves on and around a chair.
