Senate Election is Just 1 Week Away

Westborough's town clerk's office is preparing for next week's special election to fill the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by John Kerry’s appointment to Secretary of State. Westborough's polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. next Tuesday, June 25, Town Clerk Nancy Yendriga said Monday. Precincts 1 and 3 will vote in the Gibbons Middle School gym. Precinct 2 will vote in the Hastings Elementary School gym. Precincts 4 and 5 will vote in the Mill Pond School gym. Republican Gabriel Gomez will face Democrat Edward Markey. Residents are asked to call the town clerk’s office at 508-366-3020 with questions.

I made no assumptions Tyler - it was a joke. But yes, I'm still with Gomez. I do not think Congress is doing a good job nor do I think they have done a good job for decades. Therefore I cannot vote for someone who has been part of that for all of those decades. Gabriel Gomez and Edward Markey engaged Wednesday in their first debate before the U.S. Senate special election this month, and the tone was markedly similar to the tone of the overall campaign thus far. Gomez, the Republican Cohasset businessman and former U.S. Navy SEAL, and Markey, the Democratic Malden congressman since his election in 1976, jabbed at each other during the hour-long debate at WBZ-TV's studios and sponsored by the news station and the Boston Globe. The former Navy SEAL and the longtime Congressman will face off June 25 to fill John Kerry's former U.S. Senate seat.

A political newcomer will face a long-time Massachusetts politician in the race to be the Bay State's next U.S. senator. The Associated Press has declared Republican businessman and former U.S. Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez of Cohasset and Democratic U.S. Congressman Edward Markey of Malden the winners of their U.S. Senate special primary elections, according to tweets from Fox 25. Westborough Backs Markey, Gomez

The primaries drew 16 percent of Westborough's registered voters.

Westborough voters on Tuesday backed Democrat Edward Markey and Republican Gabriel Gomez for U.S. Senate. The special state primary drew 16 percent, or 1,819, of Westborough's 11,140 registered voters, according to unofficial results from Town Clerk Nancy Yendriga. Westborough Democrats supported Markey over U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch, 789 to 326.  In the Republican primary here, Gomez received 345 votes, former U.S. Attorney Mike Sullivan received 262 votes and state Rep.
