Food Trucks' Popularity Growing

"Food trucks seem to be the new thing," Westborough Director of Public Health Paul McNulty told the board of health in his April report. "Some are really tricked out with equipment like a full service restaurant." McNulty said he attended a food trucks workship last month. McNulty, Town Sanitarian Steven Baccari and Town Health Inspector Terry Gilchrist's April reports were on Tuesday night's health board agenda. 8 Phones Stolen During Route 9 Burglary

Eight phones worth about $4,000 total were stolen during a break-in at a Route 9 business early Wednesday, Westborough Police Chief Alan Gordon said today. Police responded to Applied Communications, 135 Turnpike Road, for a burglar alarm at 4:18 a.m., according to the Westborough Police log. The front door being smashed in set off the alarm, Gordon said. The phones were taken from the display case, he said. Gordon believed that Applied Communications sells AT&T phones. Meanwhile, police made one unrelated arrest Wednesday. At 3:56 p.m., on West Main Street, police arrested Stephen K. Adjei, 35, of 12B Sever St., Apt. 20, Worcester, on a straight warrant. Frozen Yogurt Shop Coming to Bay State Commons

A frozen yogurt shop plans to open at Westborough's Bay State Commons. The Snow Bowl's plans were approved by Health Inspector Terry Gilchrist in April, she told the board of health in her April inspection report. Gilchrist said she also discussed the plans with Snow Bowl owner Ken Kim. The Snow Bowl would be Westborough's third frozen yogurt shop. IYogurt plans to open at the Westborough Shopping Center, at 30 Lyman St. Gilchrist said she has approved the plans. Fruitti Cup opened at 31 South St., near the Westborough rotary, last summer.

Arizona Senior Health Care Firm Expanding to Westborough

ActiveRx's first New England active aging center will open in the Westborough Shopping Center in September.

An Arizona-based senior health care company plans to open its first New England active aging center in the Westborough Shopping Center in a few months. ActiveRx Westborough will have a grand opening at 24 Lyman St., Suite 140, in September, with tours planned for August, the firm said in a press release Tuesday. Regional Developer Paul Reilly plans to open 15 to 20 centers in Southern New England over the next three years, the press release noted. Reilly's territory covers Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. “Our first center is ideally located to serve residents of a number of communities,” Reilly said in the release, “including Westborough, Southborough, Northborough, Hopkinton, Framingham, Upton, Grafton, Shrewsbury, Boylston …

Liquor Store's Tobacco Permit May Get 7-Day Suspension

HighPoint Wines allegedly has sold tobacco products to under age customers twice this year.

The Westborough Board of Health may suspend a Connector Road liquor store's tobacco sales permit for seven days for selling tobacco products to customers under age 18 twice this year. The board agreed Tuesday night to put HighPoint Wines' suspension on hold until its June meeting, and ask the Worcester Regional Tobacco Control Collaborative if it used someone under 18 and using a Massachusetts driver's license into HighPoint Wines to try to buy a cigar and cigarettes on April 11. Director of Public Health Paul McNulty said HighPoint sold cigarettes to a minor used by the collaborative on Feb. 26. HighPoint owner Devinder Rekki paid a $100 fine, per the board's regulations, McNulty said. The second alleged violation within 12 months …

Event Planning Firm Moves Into Larger Space

It's one of two new Westborough leases announced.

A Westborough-based event planning and trade show firm has moved into larger quarters on Otis Street. Corporate Communications' agreement for 19,087 square feet of warehouse space at 27 Otis St. was among four leases for Westborough sites recently brokered by Richards Barry Joyce & Partners, LLC, a Boston-based full-service commercial real estate advisory firm. The locations total 276,932 square feet, the real estate firm said in a recent press release. Corporate Communications moved from smaller space on Old Flanders Road, President Bob Dobinski said Tuesday. The firm's lease was among two new ones announced by Richards Barry Joyce & Partners, both at 27 Otis St. Columbia Tech has begun leasing 68,135 square feet of warehouse space there…

Emery Family Farm Wants to Turn Home Into Two

The family met with the Westborough Zoning Board of Appeals on Monday night.

Newlywed Wesley Buckalew wants to help his parents continue expanding the Emery Family Farm. "In order for us to be able to do that, I need to be able to live on the farm and not live in my parents' house" on the farm, Buckalew told the Westborough Zoning Board of Appeals on Monday night. Buckalew's parents, Timothy Buckalew and Leigh Emery, have asked the board to allow them to create a two-family lot out of the single-family home on the farm, at 5 Emery Road. Toward that end, the couple has asked the board for a variance from the dimensional schedule in the Westborough zoning bylaws, as well as a 2004 variance decision allowing for the single-family home, according to the public hearing notice.
