One of my work colleagues, Sean Foley and his wife Suzanne, has pulled together a grass roots response to try and help with the devastation wrought by Sandy. They are renting a fleet of UHauls and driving them Monday, November 12, to the offices of State Senator Andrew Lanza for distribution in New York. Called “The Karma Truck,” this is gaining momentum and may be the type of thing you can also participate in.
Locally, Amcomm Verizon Wireless (200 Union St/Bay State Common and 76 Otis Street) have agreed to be drop of locations for:
- Canned Goods / Nonperishable Food (including powdered milk)
- Batteries (C+D) , Maglite flashlights, Hand/Foot warmers, cleaning supplies, trash bags
- Water (You know you stocked up before Sandy, and don’t need it now.)
- Blankets, gently used or New.
- Toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, deodorant etc)
- Baby Care items (Diapers, formula etc)
- Pet Food
- Road flares (Urgent need for the police.)
You will get no proof of donation as this is not any sort of official charity. This is just one American family, asking others to help fill up a truck withKarma for other Americans in need.
What will you put in the Karma Truck?

A great GREEN LIGHT Gary. Thanks for sharing. I think I know what to do with the drawers full of toothpaste, shampoo and coffee pilfered from hotel rooms over the years!

Thanks, Ron. I normally have a healthy amount of skepticism on things like this, and where I know the guy am very comfortable supporting it.

Dear Fellow Karma Truckers,
Thank you for donating goods, your time, your labor and your passion for helping our fellow American families. We were in awe of how quickly you, our friends, family and communities, stepped up to the challenge.
Your efforts helped us fill both a 26' and a 20' truck with goods needed in Staten Island and New Jersey. It was heartening as well to see many private relief efforts like ours while we were there. They came locally from Pennsylvania, Maryland and Ohio and as far afield as Wisconsin. They were all driven by a need to help.
In the end we delivered 14 pallets of food, water and clean up supplies to the Tunnels to Towers relief depot on Staten Island. We also delivered an estimated 20 pallets more of clothing to both Staten Island and New Jersey.
Thank you for helping us bring this region some relief via the Karma Truck. I hope we can help each other deliver goodwill again in the future.
Sincerely,
-The Foley Family & The Karma Truck Team
