Folks,
We need to limit our tax increase. Everyone is aware of the steep tax increases we have seen for the past several years. A tax payer protection group is needed. What do people think about limiting tax increases for the next 2 fiscal years to 0%?
The School Committee just cooked up a 3.07% increase.
At the Spring Town Meeting we will introduce a 0% increase Article. This is long overdue. If you are willing to sign the petition, please send me your name by email or reply to this message. We have already 100 interested voters. I would like to grow the list by several hundred. We already have enough for the Article. When we have 1000 I will present this to the Selectmen to see if they are awake. All we need is 200-300 to defeat the tax and spend crowd. Lets make it happen.

We should be asking for term limits for school committee

The Real Reason our Taxes are going thru the roof is below:

The simple reason Westborough’s taxes keep exploding up compared to
the state average is because our exorbitant “levy limit” has never
been reduced since it was set in 1980. Since then, most of our major
high-tech companies have gone. Once, businesses paid 60% of all our
taxes. NOW they pay about 40%. But the levy limit keeps compounding
UP each year according to the law of Prop 2 ½. Fairness to homeowners
now requires the levy limit be reduced $6 million in this recession.

I need people to step up and express their opinion. This is your town and unless you like the tax and spend crowd, let me know your opinion. Dont let 200-300 people control what you pay.
After all the American Revolution was fought on the issue of taxes. Citizen petitions is the way to go here. Step up and make a difference.

On another thread, you stated that Westborough needed the following, "...better security especially at the schools. In Westborough, we have a police officer who goes between the schools and serves as a deterent to nut cases. This security should be tightened in view of Newtown." Where is that money coming from with a 0% increase? Security in the form of uniformed personnel does not come cheap. After Newtown, Westborough schools had increased police presence for one day.

The money comes from a more efficiently run town. Private companies do it all the time. This is a new era where we do more with less. For example, we could ask the town unions to help the town by taking a cut across the board. In exchange we could increase there pay when the economy gets better. We all need to be more creative in how we operate. Otherwise we will go the way of the Roman Empire. What would you suggest TBH?

Hi All,
We as a people need to understand the current economic situation that has been created. I will share what I have found by reading a book called the "The Age of Deleaveraging" by Dr. A Gary Shilling.

In fact you can get this book at the Westborough library whether your rich or poor for free.
The private sector is going thru deleaveraging where prices are dropping and will continue to drop for at least the next 5 years. The public sector has been slow to adopt to the new deflationary world. However, this must and will change over the next 5 years as the World Economy shapes the future of the US. Our standard of living will drop to be better in balance with the rest of the world.
So what does this mean for our town? The likely outcome is we will need to be more competitive with lower taxes and more efficient government. And as always, those who refuse to change will perish. Keep that in mind when voting on Articles.
