Governor Patrick: If someone is applying for a position that literally holds the freedom of people in its hands, such as a chemist in a state crime lab, is this applicant screened in any way, shape or form? Up to, and including verification of education and professional credentials?
Since that obviously did not take place, how does your administration plan to handle the cases of nearly 1100 current inmates whose evidence was possibly tainted by this chemist and/or this underqualified chemist testified on the State's behalf?
Should you choose to run for office beyond your term as Governor here in Massachusetts, do you believe that any future crimes committed by one of these 1100 affected parties will be used by the GOP as your "Willie Horton moment" during a campaign?

That chemist started her employment at the state crime lab 10 years ago - who was governor then? Either Bill Weld or Willard Romney was governor at that time - should it prove to be Romney, do you think Obama should use it as a "Willie Horton moment" in this election cycle?

Chris, you're employing one of the many tactics of a dishonest debater - when shown to be wrong, change the subject. There's an investigation ongoing, perhaps you should wait to see the outcome before blaming the governor for something that hasn't happened yet?

In fact, she was hired in 2003, so I would ask the Governor what, exactly, Governor Romney should have done differently to prevent this from happening.

John, you're employing one of the basic tactics that the Democrats use: blame the last guy.
If you buy a house, and 4 years later the hot water heater bursts, you don't get to send the bill to the previous owner.
Democrats, the pass the buck party.
Is Romney guilty of lax checks? Yep. Should there be a mechanism in place for both initial screenings, and perhaps reviews down the road, such as MBTA drivers who are involved in accidents/get tickets, etc after their hire? Absolutely!

Ha! Chris, you're hilarious - here's a recap of your posts:
1.) You started by trying to blame Deval Patrick, and I showed you to be wrong.
2.) You then tried to shift blame to Governor Patrick, but with an investigation ongoing, I showed you to be wrong again.
3.) Now you accuse me of "blaming the last guy", when all I did was employ your logic and apply it to the person who, by your own logic, would be responsible for this.
Should there be checks on the people we hire for important government positions? I agree with you - absolutely! However, you may want to look at what we already have on the books before you just assume that these don't exist:

Well since the questions will be picked and chose in his favor I guess I'll get mine unanswered now: Why does it appear that you view our many undocumented permanent visitors, mostly from the southern continents, as well as our own lesser productive citizens who like to sit home getting high, as more important or valuable to you then the people who pay for all their freebie's?
How about taking a leadership role in helping your working class who pay for all the housing/EBT/food stamps, by adding random drug tests, bringing back the work requirements, and time frames so gov't dependency doesn't become a lifestyle.
I understand that would kill a lot of the your demographic, but bold leadership is needed to go against the grain, so I'll await my no answer, since I answered myself anyway.

Governor Patrick,
Do you have any plans to deal with judges that sympathize with the convicted over the victims during sentencing? Will you make changes to your Governors Council in an effort to strengthen the protection of those that obey the laws? Will you consider making changes to the parole board to ensure violent or multiple offenders that pose a threat to society are not released?

Governor Patrick,
Do you believe that people lose cognitive ability and experience a significant increase in reaction time as they age? And do you think it is appropriate to begin testing these abilities on the elderly before renewing or issuing a drivers license? If so, at what age do you think it is appropriate?

Governor Patrick,
Are you concerned about Massachusetts losing a Congressional district as a result of the most recent census? Do you have any plans to increase the population of legal Massachusetts residents and therefore increase our congressional representation?

Governor Patrick,
Despite language barring gender discrimination in custody awards, mothers are awarded primary custody in a disproportionately large number of child custody cases. What, specifically, can and should the executive branch undertake to remedy this disparity?

Good question Ben,
As the child of a father who was awarded custody(in the early 80s, no less!), I am a strong advocate for a little more equity in these judgments. MA laws and thinking on the matter are antiquated, disappointing considering how progressive we tend to be on other issues.

Mary,
I would like to know why the Governor has shown a preference to look out for ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS over the poor, unemployed, legal residents of Massachusetts when it comes to jobs, public services and his policies?
And a second question would be "does he think that it is irresponsible that we spend any state money in supporting ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS and/or their offspring in sucking up scarce resources that will continue to dwindle as we move forward?"
And a third question that should be posed to the Governor is: "whether he considers the money that he and the State Legislature authorizes to be spent is money that belongs to those that put it into the Treasury (such as legal, tax-paying residents), NOT HIS, and whether their needs and concerns should outweight those demanded by the ILLEGALS?
Thanks!

Joe, those are all preposterous statements. Where - where even once - has the governor shown preference for illegal immigrants over other Massachusetts residents? Show me one place where an undocumented individual was given preferential treatment over a citizen.
You can't.

Ben - This blog is for supplying questions to Mary in order to ask questions of the Governor. This is not where you get to play sensor! If you have a question (which I see you did above), then ask it. Do not step in and TELL me what question I should or shouldn't ask! Must be that Liberal blood running through your veins!! With all due respect - BUG OUT!!

Dear Governor,
Why do illegals get to stay on the dole indefinitely (see Auntie Zeituni et al @ Welfare/EBT) while those of us who have gotten laid off have a 2 extension maximum for unemployment and then are told to find work "somewhere"? Why are there two sets of rules? Why is it harder for legal citizens?
Thanks

Governor Patrick, what can be done to make the MBTA in massachusetts profitable so as to allow it to stand on it's own? It's absurd that it can run a deficit of $430+ Million equivalent to over $65 per PERSON in Massachusetts.

As much as I'd love to pile on, mass transit in the US was never intended to be "profitable".
NYC, Philly, DC, Chicago, you name it, they all run on a deficit.
But....perhaps the Governor can speak on the impending bacon shortage, and tell us what he plans to do to keep bacon prices under control?

Governor Patrick, How can we start to revamp the credit history reporting companies, who controls the oversight on their activities? When did the law change on the use of our social security number for identification and record keeping, outside of tax, happen? How can we implement a change from using our social security number to check our credit history to use a personal identification number when asked for credit checks, much like a credit card does? How can we start this ball rolling?

Governor, do you have any pull with the Middlesex DA, to quicken the pace of the investigation into Framingham's Building Commissioner which has been going on for over 300 days? Channel 4 was able to do its investigation in what would seem to be a period of a few days/weeks.

Governor Patrick, how can it not be illegal to be illegal in Massachusetts? Why are you continuing the appeasement of undocumented immigrants? Other than cheap, untaxed labor, they bring nothing to the table in the economy of Massachusetts. They don't pay taxes, don't pay for their medical care, yet still, they somehow end up with EBT cards and MA drivers' licenses(where, ironically the laws against DUI don't apply to them). All the talk in the national arena is on the 1% paying their fair share. The wealthy make purchases and pay property taxes. What about illegal immigrants?
I'm sure the answer is "nothing", but I'll ask it anyway. What do you plan to do to help ensure undocumented immigrants do not overstay their visas and strain the already taxed economic assistance and legal systems here in Massachusetts?
