Presenting Westborough’s Top Stories of 2012

With the year winding to a close, we’re looking back at what happened in town.

 

Westborough had a busy 2012.

Phil the Barber retired. Friendly's on Route 9, and Piccadilly Pub on Connector Road, closed, but St. Mary's Credit Union and Owen O'Leary's will replace them. And Westborough teenager Lizzi Marriott was murdered in New Hampshire.

2. Voters approve funding for a new fire station.

3. Phil the Barber retires.

4. Friendly's on Route 9 closes, to be replaced in 2013 by St. Mary's Credit Union.

5. Piccadilly Pub on Connector Road closes, to be replaced in 2013 by Owen O'Leary's Restaurant and Pub.

6. A solar project at Harvey's Farm gets approved.

7. Fire destroys apartments at Park Village.

8. The NAMM Foundation chooses Westborough as a "Best Community for Music Education."

9. Superstorm Sandy strikes the area, leaving some parts of Westborough without electricity for days.

10.  Miss Massachusetts Natalie Pietrzak competes in the Miss USA pageant.
