Local book groups, families, groups of friends and others are invited to join the townwide reading program presented by the Called Westborough Reads Together, the goal is to provide a forum on social issues for Westborough youth and their families by bringing them together through a reading experience.

“We are always looking for ways to bring the community together,” said Maureen Abrosino, director of the Westborough Public Library. “Books and reading are great tools to use to have conversations about the issues we all face, and this book is our top choice to accomplish that goal.”

The book that was selected for the program is Please Ignore Vera Dietz, by A.S. King. Ambrosino told Westborough Patch that the book is appropriate for high school age students and older. She said there are some concepts in the book that may be too mature for younger readers.

“’Vera’ is a thought provoking human story full of suspense and humor; a story that we can all relate to in some way,” said Anita Cellucci, school librarian at and project co-chair with Ambrosino.

The reading program kickoff will take place Nov. 29 at the screening of the film Race to Nowhere at the auditorium. A social and fundraiser is planned to begin at 6:30 p.m. with desserts provided by the bakery at

Volunteers will be on hand to distribute free copies of the book to the first 100 people, made possible by a donation from the Westborough Civic Club.

The film beigins at 7 p.m.

Project events include book discussion groups, a film festival, flash mob, poetry slam and “Where in Westborough is Vera Dietz?” scavenger hunt. The author, A.S. King, will also be coming to Westborough in the spring to help celebrate the conclusion of the project.

More information and event dates will be posted on the Westborough Reads Together website at http://www.westboroughlib.org/wrt.
