Town Gas Prices Higher Than State Average

Westborough Patch compared local prices to recently released state average.

The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline today in Westborough is $3.78, over 12 cents higher than the state average.

A Sept. 12 survey released by AAA Southern New England shows that the Massachusetts average for the week is $3.659 per gallon, up a penny from a week ago and one cent above the national average of $3.64.

During the noon hour today, Westborough Patch visited the six town gas stations (we did not include the service plaza on the Mass Pike) and found the following prices:

$3.739 Mobil, East Main Street

$3.859  - Shell, East Main Street

$3.759 BP, Milk Street

$3.599 – GasCo, Milk Street

$3.859 Mobil, Turnpike Road

$3.879 Shell, Turnpike Road

A year ago at this time the Massachusetts average price was $2.60.

Some of those prices are cash or debit only.

Ironically, the Board of Selectmen turned down a request by Stop & Shop to put in a gas station at their Lyman Street location because it would "hurt" gasoline station "small businesses" in town.
