An upcoming fundraiser at Westborough’s FitStudio28 is another step toward raising awareness of diabetes.
The fifth Spin for Diabetes organized by Amy Booth runs from 8 to 11 a.m. March 24, at FitStudio28, 122 Turnpike Road.
Booth said Monday she hopes to raise $2,000 from the event, twice what she has raised in previous years. All proceeds will be benefit the American Diabetes Association.
The event is among the fundraisers she does for the Tour de Cure, a national bike event she has done since 2005.
Booth said she has had Type 1 diabetes for 29 years.
“I think because of the media right now, people are more aware of (diabetes) because of the obesity problems in the United States,” Booth said,
“There are more commercials about diabetes. I don’t think people really understand what the disease is all about other than people have blood sugar problems.
“Pretty much you talk to anybody, and they know somebody that has diabetes.”
Participants in the March 24 event may sign up to spin for an hour, two hours, or all three hours, Booth said.
There will be six spin instructors, and “every half hour, an instructor changes,” she said.
Raffles will be held during and after the spin session, she said. Local businesses have donated prizes.
“I’ve been teaching exercise for a long time. I try to be a good role model,” Booth said.
