Construction is underway at Sachi Japanese Hibachi and Sushi Bar, a new Japanese restaurant in the Bay State Commons that's slated to open in August 2012. Westborough Patch peeked behind the papered windows to bring you photos of this new addition to the town.

Sited across from Panera's, this new restaurant will feature sushi, hibachi and teppanyaki, according to Tina Wang, wife of the owner Jim Chen. Wang also mentioned that the business has a full liquor license. Sachi, a girl's name, means happiness in Japanese, according to Wang, who is Chinese as is her husband.

Sachi's owner is an experienced restauranteer. Wang, who will manage Sachi, said that Chen owns two other restaurants: Shinto Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar in Naperville, Illinois (Chicago area), and in Strongsville, Ohio. These two restaurants are highly rated on Urbanspoon and Yelp.

Wang told Westborough Patch, "We have family in Boston and saw the location here and liked it." The couple is currently living in Westborough since they have staff in place that is managing their other restaurants. Once this location is established, they will move on according to Wang.

Wang estimated that Sachi will seat about 150 people (she didn’t remember the exact number). She said that a New York design company did the floor plan of the space, and a Boston construction company, Sky Phoenix, is doing the work. Wang also said that she and her husband had a lot of input on the layout and materials, since they've been through this before. She said, "We picked out all the tile, marble and lights ourselves."

According to the building permit with the town (#756/2011), which was issued November 5, 2011, the construction will cost $300,000. The space is now filled with brand new stainless steel appliances, boxes of glass tile, a beautiful gray tile floor and all sorts of work-in-progress. The bones of the sushi bar are visible, as are those of the regular bar and hibachi stations. Pretty soon, boneless fish will be visible, too!
