Small Fire Outside Target Extinguished

The incident in the trash compactor happened Thursday night.

Target was evacuated Thursday night due to a small fire in an outside trash compactor, fire officials said today.

The building's sprinkler system extinguished the fire, which was reported at the retail store, at 330 Turnpike Road, at 8:36 p.m., Westborough Fire Capt. Joe Lawrence said today.

The fire was confined to the trash compactor, which is located in back of one of the shipping docks, Lawrence said.

"We pulled it away from the building," he said.

"Everything worked the way it had to."
