Police: Reported Abduction Attempt a Misunderstanding

Police located the vehicle involved in Wednesday's incident on School St. on Thursday and were told the driver had spoken to a student about walking in the street.

Police Thursday located the vehicle involved in what was reported as a possible abduction attempt of a Mill Pond School student a day earlier and after interviewing the driver and passenger, determined the incident was likely a misunderstanding.

Westborough Police Chief Alan Gordon issued a statement Thursday afternoon saying that officers on patrol in the area spotted and stopped a white pickup truck--a vehicle matching the description of the one --with two men inside on School St.

"After interviewing the two males, it was determined that their comments to the female were in regards to her walking in the roadway and they made no attempt to entice her into their vehicle or attempt to harm her," Gordon said. "They both work at a business in the south end of Westborough and utilize School Street on their way home to their residence in Millbury."

Neither subject has a criminal record, Gordon added.

Earlier on Thursday, Superintendent Marianne O'Connor sent home a notice to all parents via email informing them of the incident on Wednesday and asking anyone who sees the vehicle to contact police.
