Officer Injured After Cruiser Rear-Ended
The accident happened on Route 9 this morning.
A Westborough Police officer was injured this morning after his cruiser was rear-ended on Route 9 East by a driver who allegedly dozed off, Police Chief Alan Gordon said.
Westborough Fire Department paramedics transported Officer Brian Massey to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center after treating him at the scene of the accident, which happened just east of the Lyman Street traffic lights at around 5:27 a.m., Gordon said in a press release.
Police cited Casandra L. Zellmer, 19, of 4 Watt Road, Worcester for operating a motor vehicle so as to endanger, Gordon said.
Zellmer was not injured in the accident, he said.
Sgt. Peter Goodney investigated the incident.
"The investigation revealed that Zellmer had dozed off and drove into the rear of the cruiser which was moving at the time," Gordon said.
The 2011 Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser received rear bumper damage. The 2010 Nissan driven by Zellmer received significant front end damage.
