The callers do not represent Westborough Police, Gordon says.

Westborough Police are cautioning community members about a new phone solicitation effort claiming to represent the department.

Police Chief Alan Gordon said today a community member called him on Tuesday saying they received a call from someone "identifying themselves as a Westborough Police officer" and "asking for a donation to their ad book."

The solicitor was from a group called the a group called the Narcotic Enforcement Officers, Gordon said. The solicitor told the community member they would pick up the donation at their business, he said.

"I am not aware of any connection to our department," Gordon said.

"They may be a legitimate organization, but they do not represent the Westborough Police Department."
