Murder Suspect Allegedly Strangled, Suffocated Elizabeth Marriott

Seth Mazzaglia was ordered held without bail at his arraignment Monday.

The man charged with murdering Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott allegedly strangled and suffocated the 19-year-old University of New Hampshire student and Westborough resident, a judge said Monday.

Judge Stephen Morrison said Seth Mazzaglia reportedly strangled and suffocated Marriott last Tuesday, Oct. 9. No further details about the killing were revealed at this morning's video arraignment in Dover District Court. All court documents related to the case, including complaints and the police affidavit, were sealed.

Mazzaglia stood handcuffed in Strafford County Department of Corrections fatigues during his video arraignment on Monday morning. None of Marriott's family members were present in the courtroom.

New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Jane Young requested that Mazzaglia be held without bail given the severity of the charge against him and Morrison granted that request. Mazzaglia is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. in Dover District Court.

Mazzaglia, 29, of Dover was charged with Marriott's murder on Saturday. Police located Marriott's car in the UNH parking lot, but are still searching for her body in Portsmouth.

She was last seen on Oct. 9. According to police, Marriott, 19, a marine biology student, completed a class at the Durham campus and said she was on her way to Dover to visit some friends.

During a Saturday press conference, Vara said Mazzaglia and Marriott knew one another, but were not involved in any kind of relationship.

According to Mazzaglia's web site, he is "an experienced Actor, Writer and Fight Choreographer" who has worked in theatres in Southern New Hampshire for many years, most recently in the Garrison Players' production of "The Miracle Worker."

Mazzaglia lives on Mill Street in Dover. Police searched a Mill Street apartment building on Friday, searching a dumpster located nearby.
