Lyman Street Stop & Shop Scene of Two Alarm Fire

Employees on the scene said that a rotisserie chicken caught fire inside the grocery store.

Multiple area fire departments, police, Nstar and National Grid were the scene of a two alarm fire at the Lyman Street Stop & Stop early Sunday afternoon, that was reportedly caused by a rotisserie chicken catching fire. 

The confirmed that there was an active fire investigation at the address as of approximately 1:40 p.m. Fire crews from Northborough, Grafton, Hopkinton and Southborough were all called in for mutual aid and assistance at the scene. 

There was no fire or smoke showing from the exterior of the building as of 2 p.m., said witnesses.

The fire alarms are sounding but there is no sign of visible smoke outside building, said Gary Kelley. Fire hoses are in building, but everyone seems pretty nonchalant.

As of this post, utilities were being shut off to the building as a precautionary measure by Nstar and National Grid.

"I just came from Stop & Shop," commented one Westborough Patch reader on Facebook. "It started in the deli department in the rotisserie oven. We were asked to evacuate."

According to scanner traffic, Westborough Board of Health chief arrived on the scene at 2:13 p.m.
