Letter to the Editor: 'Pass the Torch' Was a 'Great Success'
The program sponsored by In Your Shoes collected over 1,500 pounds of food and several hundred dollars in cash donations for the Westborough Food Pantry.
To the Editor:
The "Pass the Torch" program’ sponsored by In Your Shoes, a giving circle, (IYS) has ended, and we would like to thank everyone who participated and made this program a great success.
In the spirit of the Summer Olympics, "Pass the Torch" was a program designed to help restock the Westborough Food Pantry throughout the summer months when donations tend to be low.
On June 27, members of In Your Shoes began distributing laminated cardboard torches around town. They asked that torch recipients donate to the Westborough Food Pantry and then pass the torch to a friend or neighbor. When reminded that "hunger does not take the summer off," the Westborough community response was fabulous. Through this program, which ran July 1 to Aug. 15, IYS collected over 1,500 pounds of food and several hundred dollars in cash donations.
IYS would like to thank the staff at the Westborough Public Library and the Westborough Fire Department for supporting our efforts and serving as drop-off locations. Also, we would like to thank Curry Printing for their help laminating the torches.
Through the "Pass the Torch" program, the Westborough community made an Olympic effort to help those in need this summer and we are very grateful to all who participated. If you were away, or did not receive a torch, please consider making a donation to the food pantry. They can always use more donations.
If you did receive a torch, please return it to the front lawn of the Westborough Public Library.
