Familiar Voice Becomes Reserve Cop

Former 'Loren and Wally' sports guy Jeffrey Bakstran is Westborough's newest reserve intermittent police officer.

Westborough's newest reserve intermittent police officer is a familiar voice.

To fans of 105.7-FM's "Loren and Wally" morning show.

Jeffrey Bakstran used to do sportscasts on the program, Police Chief Alan Gordon told selectmen Tuesday night. Bakstran also has been a hockey referee at the NorthStar Youth Forum and in Marlborough, the chief said.

Gordon said one of his sergeants "told me how he handles himself with people, and I think that's a good measure of how he's going to handle this job."

Bakstran now will do police detail assignments at "no cost to the town," Gordon said. Bakstran recently graduated from the reserve intermittent police academy, he said.
