Contest Emerges For Selectman

Three people now have taken out nomination papers for the board. Two 3-year terms are on the March 5 annual ballot.

A race for Westborough selectman has emerged.

Ruggles Street resident Stephen Faris has taken out nomination papers for the March 5 annual town ballot, according to the town clerk's office.

Two three-year terms on the board are on the ballot. Incumbents Leigh Emery and Timothy Dodd both have taken out papers for re-election.

Faris recently spoke at the school committee's budget public hearing. He also is blogging for Westborough Patch.

Residents have until 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11 to take out nomination papers. The deadline for filing papers signed by 50 registered voters with Town Clerk Nancy Yendriga for certification is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Ten offices are on the ballot: three 3-year terms on the trustees of the Westborough Public Library; two 2-year terms each on the board of selectmen and the school committee; a five-year term on the planning board; a five-year term on the Westborough Housing Authority; and a three-year term on the Westborough Housing Authority.

Besides Faris, Dodd and Emery, the following have taken out nomination papers: School committee members Stephen Doret and Bruce Tretter; Library Trustee Helena Engberg, Karen Griegal and Geralyn Kohler; Westborough Planning Board member Joanne Mallozzi; and Westborough Housing Authority member Charles Naples (three years).

Westborough Housing Authority member Julie Pappazsis has indicated she will not seek another five-year term, according to the town clerk's office.
