Code Red Gets Earlier Green Light

The emergency reverse calling system is expected to start this week.

Code Red has the green light to serve Westborough starting this week, rather than July 1.

The emergency reverse calling system's pro-rated additional time here will be funded through a grant the Westborough Fire Department received through the town's local emergency planning committee, Town Manager Jim Malloy told selectmen Tuesday night.

Code Red will replace a reverse 911 system that was scheduled to end in July.

"We could go live almost immediately -- in fact, probably the end of this week," Malloy said.

Selectmen approved the three-year deal with Code Red for $8,678.50, which, Malloy noted, is less than the $9,000 budgeted at the March 16 annual town meeting.

The price also reflects a 15 percent discount because Northborough and Southborough are signing on to Code Red as well, Malloy said.
