Longtime Westborough High School Assistant Principal Brian Callaghan will become the school's principal on July 1, pending contract negotiations.
School Superintendent Marianne O'Connor informed the school committee of her selection Wednesday night.
Callaghan has 20 years in education, the last six as Westborough High assistant principal, O'Connor said.
O'Connor announced Callaghan's candidacy in February, and he met with staff and community members separately on Feb. 26.
"I had so many phone calls and e-mails from families supporting him," O'Connor said.
Callaghan will succeed John Smith, who will resign at the end of the school year. In December, O’Connor said Smith will pursue “other interests in the field of education.”
