The Bangkok Thai Restaurant has closed permanently because the owner/operator has been "running into some financial straits," his attorney said today.
"B.B." had "tried to get people interested in taking over his license, without any success," attorney John Matson said.
The restaurant at Downtown Crossing, 57 East Main St., has been closed since October.
The situation was expected to last two weeks, because the restaurant was "temporarily without a lead chef," who had worked there since its opening, Matson said in a statement at that time. The chef had "some personal (matters) out of state to deal with," the statement said.
Today, Matson told Westborough Patch during a phone interview that "that matter was resolved. But, the fact of the matter is the business side of the restaurant was not as successful as was hoped."
"I think it's fair to say he will not be reopening," Matson said.
The Bangkok Thai Restaurant held a grand opening last Dec. 8. The Mandarin Restaurant formerly occupied that site.
This October, voters at Westborough's special town meeting authorized selectmen to petition the state Legislature for an additional all-alcoholic beverages license, specifically for the Bangkok Thai.

That's a bummer. They were really good. Should save the license for the next place. Maybe bring back Willy's Texas BBQ??? ;)

They are good people who served good food. They enthusiastically supported participation in Arts in Common and the Westborough Spring Festival and I know that members of our Rotary club, which worked with them on those events, would go out of our way to have a meal or even meeting there. I think they were a little weak on the visibility and promotion side, but hoped they would get through all that. Best of luck to B.B. and his family. And thanks for the wonderful massaman curry!
