5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 20

Another coating of snow, a reason to stop at the rotary and a big sports weekend.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Another sneaky overnight storm left a blanket of snow on Westborough and even more may be on the way for Saturday, with a storm that could dump up to six inches of snow during the day, forecasters say.

2. Finally, a good reason to stop on the rotary: Girl Scouts will be out selling cookies there on Friday. Look for them at other locations around town over the weekend as well. Cookies are $4 a box.

3. It's a big weekend on the sports scene and local teams get in on the act starting Friday, with the Westborough boys varsity basketball team hosting Marlborough at 7 pm. On Saturday, the high school gymnastics squad travels to Hudson for a meet that starts at 11 a.m. Ice hockey is also in action on Saturday, traveling to Fitchburg to face Leominster.

4. State Rep. Carolyn Dykema is coming to town next month. Dykema, a Holliston Democrat, announced she'll be holding office hours at the Westborough Public Library on Monday, Feb. 6 from 6 to 7 p.m.

5. The next event in Westborough Reads Together takes place on Monday, Jan. 23, when the shared book, Please Ignore Vera Dietz, by A.S. King, will be the subject of a discussion at Westborough Youth & Family Services. High school students and adults are welcome to attend. Sign up by emailing yfs@town.westborough.ma.us or calling 508.366.3090.

Girl Scout Cookies won't actually be at the rotary....girls will be out at Stop and Shop Lyman St, and Lowes today from 4-7 pm.
On Saturday they will be at most supermarkets, EL Harvey and Sons, Lowes, Sovereign Bank and Central One Federal Credit Union. Thanks for your support!!

Louanne
Girl Scouts were not planning on selling at the Rotary at all. When we enter the events on the computer you must enter an address and that is what came up. Hope to see you at one of the booth sales. Thanks!

Judy, I was talking about the title at the top of the page that says "Patch FactsOpinion5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 20
Another coating of snow, a reason to stop at the rotary and a big sports weekend." People stopping in the rotary is one of my many pet peeves...Of course I will buy some cookies...
