5 Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 7
How are these two things related: eating church baked goods and helping soldiers in Afghanistan? We have the answer.
Each morning, Westborough Patch presents “5 Things You Need to Know,” a collection of announcements, events, reminders and odd little ditties to help you organize your day.
1. St. Stephen’s Church, 3 John St., adopted an American soldier stationed in Afghanistan. The church has committed to sending at least one letter a week and one package a month to the soldier. Once received, she shares her packages and mail with the soldiers in her group. To defray the costs of the mailings, the group held a bake sale on Sunday, Jan. 29. Visit the church website to learn more about the program.
2. The Westborough High School Rangers girls’ varsity basketball team is hosting North Middlesex Regional High School at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults; $3 for senior citizens and non-Westborough students. Free for WHS students and children under 10.
3. There is a full moon tonight. The February full moon is traditionally referred to as the Snow Moon. Native Americans of New England coined that term because of the heavy snows of February.
4. The 34th annual Troop 100 Pancake Breakfast will take place Sunday, March 4 from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is Troop 100’s only fundraiser. Everyone is welcome. The event takes place at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 17 Willow St. Tickets are $5, $4 per person for families of four or more, and $4 for senior citizens. Ticekts available at the door.
5. The Massachusetts Junior Duck Stamp program is holding a waterfowl art contest. The entry deadline is March 15. Entries are judged in four grade categories. The overall state winner represents Massachusetts at the national competition. Official entry information is posted at the US Fish and Wildlife Service website at www.fws.gov/juniorduck.
