5 Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 22
Ash Wednesday will be commemorated at the Westborough commuter rail station this morning.
Each morning, Westborough Patch presents “5 Things You Need to Know,” a collection of announcements, events, reminders and odd little ditties to help you organize your day.
1. Today is Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent. From 6 to 8 a.m., Rev. Jesse Abell of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Westborough and Rev. Robert Williams of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Millville will be offering ashes to commuters at the Westborough train station. The event is part of the Ashes to Go initiative, created to bring Lent to the places where people are found.
2. Mill Pond School will hold its popular Bingo Night on Thursday, March 29 from 6 t 8 p.m. This is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Mill Pond Parent Group. There will be Bingo, raffles, desserts, beverages and more. Save the date.
3. If you just can’t wait until the end of March to get your Bingo on, head over to the Knights of Columbus Hall, 17 Willow St. today. Doors open at 4:45 p.m. and the games begin at 6:25 p.m. Admission is $16.
4. The Westborough Senior Center is currently taking applications for the SMOC Fuel Assistance program. If you are a single person with an income below $31,218 or a couple with an income below $40,824, you may be eligible for assistance. Call the senior center at 508-366-3000 for more information.

The cookie locator site for Westborough and surrounding towns is www.cookielocator.littlebrownie.com. It is not hergirlscouts.org which is for eastern Massachusetts.Only 2 weeks left to buy the iconic treat.
