1 Arrested After Small Fire, Disturbance
Police arrested the suspect after he allegedly ran on Route 9.
A Westborough man allegedly burned a second-floor carpet in Belmont Plaza, caused a disturbance at the nearby Wendy's and then ran along Route 9 before being caught by police on Monday afternoon.
Isaac M. Mutesasira was arrested by Lt. Todd Minardi and Patrolman Chris Atchue, Westborough Police Chief Alan Gordon said Monday night in a press release.
Police arrested Mutesasira, 21, of 297 Turnpike Road, Aptt. 315, for the second consecutive day. He was arrested for drunk driving early Sunday.
Monday, at about 2:59 p.m., police and firefighters responded to Belmont Plaza, 276 Turnpike Road (Route 9), for a fire alarm, and found a small fire in a sitting area outside the second-floor offices, Gordon said. Lit newspapers burned the carpet, he said.
Then, someone reported a male causing a disturbance at Wendy's in Speedway Plaza, Gordon said.
Mutesasira allegedly ran west on Route 9 East when he saw the first officer, before being arrested.
"Mutesasira was identified by a clerk in the liquor store in Belmont Plaza as having purchased numerous alcoholic beverages before the fire was discovered. These same alcoholic beverages were located in the area of the fire," Gordon said.
Police charged Mutesasira with willful and malicious burning of a building,
disorderly person, resisting arrest and malicious destruction of property under $250.
However, Mutesasira was taken to the UMass Medical Center for observation after being seen trying to harm himself in his cell, Gordon said.
