Library Starting 'Can Your Fines' Drive

The Westborough Public Library wants residents to “can” their overdue fines during the month of February.

Starting Feb. 1, library patrons with late fees can pay off their fines with a donation of nonperishable food items, grocery gift cards, or cash, to benefit the Westborough Food Pantry.

This is the second annual “Can Your Fines” food drive. Last year’s project resulted in the donation of 1,272 pounds of food, so the library staff has decided to set their sights on collecting a ton this year. Can Your Fines will run through Feb. 28.

Anyone without late fees who would like to donate nonperishable food items, grocery gift cards, or cash, is welcome to donate as well. The Food Pantry is currently in need of food items like meals in a can (beef stew, corned beef hash, chili or Manwich), bottled or canned juice, evaporated milk, Jello, cookies, crackers, cake or brownie mixes, and bread or muffin mixes. They also accept non-food items like paper towels, toilet tissue, deodorant, shampoo, and shaving needs. A full list of needed items can be found at http://westboroughfoodpantry.org/listofneededitems.html
